Contact Us and we will be happy to answer any of your questions about Hypnotherapy and
desire for change.
One of the fundamental aims of desire for change is to give you information about hypnotherapy and allow you to make an informed decision on whether hypnotherapy and desire for change are right for you.
A: Hypnosis is not a therapy in itself. Rather, a therapy is conducted in hypnosis, which is known as Hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a superior form of mental and physical relaxation, which can help clients use positive go forward suggestions to increase relaxation, break habits, cure phobias and enhance performance. Hypnotherapy is a treatment that is based on the premise that the mind and body do not work in isolation. By assisting the client into a hypnotic state, the therapist aims to trigger the body's mental and physical self-healing processes that lie in the subconscious.
Q: Can everyone be hypnotised?
A: Yes, as long as they want to hypnotised. It's just relaxation after all. The most important thing is for you to feel comfortable, therefore using a hypnotherapist with whom you feel comfortable with is vital.
Q: What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
A: Everybody's experience is slightly different. However, a hypnotic trance is generally a relaxing and tranquil experience. If you think back to this morning when you were half awake and half asleep. You were so relaxed you could not be bothered to wake yourself up properly as it felt so relaxed and comfortable. You were not asleep, but you were not fully awake either.
Q: Will I lose control?
A: Hypnotherapy does not cause you to lose control. You cannot be made to do anything that is against your belief system. You are aware at all times and in control. You are able to open your eyes and come out of hypnosis at anytime you wish. It is a cooperative process, where we work together to get the results that you want.
A: Hypnotherapy is one of the safest, quickest and most effective forms of treatment for the majority of psychological and emotional problems.
Hypnotherapy fosters an attitude of independence and mastery in coping with problems and can also accelerate the healing process in many physiological problems.
Positive aspects of hypnosis include the production of a much more profound level of relaxation, with a concurrent reduction in stress levels.
Doctors and health professionals are becoming increasingly supportive of hypnotherapy as an aid to better health. It is a non-invasive therapy, complementary to orthodox medicine.
Q: Can Hypnotherapy be dangerous?
A: Hypnotherapy is not dangerous. It is a totally natural state, you naturally engage your subconscious mind every day.
Q: Will I loose control?
A: Hypnotherapy does not cause you to lose control. You cannot be made to do anything against your will or belief system.
Q: Will I remember what happens during hypnosis?
A: Hypnotherapy is not an unconscious or sleep state. You will be able to speak, to answer questions, to recall events that may be forgotten by your conscious mind. You will be able to remember everything you 'see' or think while in the hypnotic trance state.
A: Privacy and confidentiality. None of your personal details will be passed on to anyone else, without your permission. Furthermore, strict confidentiality is a requirement of my professional association.
Assurance that you will not be programmed to respond to post-hypnotic signals to act against your own beliefs.

Q: I'm a bit nervous about hypnosis. Can you reassure me that it's ok?
A: Absolutely, I understand that you may be nervous about undergoing hypnotherapy, I was the first time. It is only natural if hypnosis is new to you. If you are thinking about hypnotherapy, but are uncertain what it's going to be like, then I invite you to come along for a free initial consultation, not only to discuss your reason for looking at hypnotherapy, but also to answer ANY questions you may have.
My relaxed, understanding approach will help to put you at your ease and I am more than happy to answer any question about hypnosis and how it is used in a therapeutic environment.
NO hypnosis will take place during this initial session, and having answered all your questions, I hope you'll see just how pleasant and relaxing it is, whilst helping to remove a lot of the 'mystery' surrounding it.
If you would like to do this either in person or over the telephone, please don't hesitate to book an initial consultation today.
Q: Can I be made under hypnosis to do something against my will?
A: No, your beliefs and consciousness are still there. Some people feel concern about this if they have seen a stage hypnotist in the past, but that really is a completely different thing. These participants are aware and willing to act this way.
Q: Am I going to be asleep?
A: Probably not, as hypnosis is not sleep it's just a state of being extremely relaxed. I say 'probably not' because some clients do find hypnosis so relaxing, that they just nod off!! If they do, it doesn't matter as it is just light sleep and their subconscious mind will still be listening.
Q: I've dieted in the past, but can't keep the weight off. Can you help?
A: Yes. The problem that many people have when they diet and then put the weight back on again (and some), is that they haven't uncovered the reason that they overeat.
Overeating is often associated with emotional issues that are still there after you have dieted and it is these emotional issues which contribute to putting the weight back on. Using hypnotherapy, I can help you uncover the emotional issues which were producing this effect. Therefore, you will be not be emotionally overeating, which will enable you to keep the weight off.
Q: I’ve given up smoking before, but have gone back to it. Can hypnosis change this?
A: Yes it can. I can help you find out why you have gone back to smoking in the past. Often, people who stop smoking by willpower alone, experience problems like withdrawal symptoms and can even go back to smoking, simply because the reasons that they gave up for were not strong enough or tangible enough.
A large part of my smoking cessation sessions is devoted to exploring with the client their reasons for wanting to stop smoking. We then go on to discover reasons for stopping smoking which are strong enough and tangible enough. Therefore, the most important part of this process is your desire for change.
Q: What happens in the free initial consultation?
A: In order for Ali to assess how she can help you, a free, no obligation and completely informal 30 minute consultation is offered before arranging your hypnotherapy sessions. This consultation can be either in person or over the telephone. Please note that no form of hypnotherapy is used during this initial consultation.
Q:How many sessions does it take?
A: desire for change works on a 3 session basis, each session being 1 week apart. There are a number of reasons for this; you can't have an addiction (i.e. food or smoking), or a problem or fear for years and expect an hour later it will be cured. If Hypnotherapy is new to you, it can be difficult to totally relax and get the full benefit of hypnosis. Also it takes 21 days to break a habit. Furthermore, Hypnotherapy is not a miracle cure. However, with a strong desire for change, my eclectic approach and the support of a 3 session programme this is a highly effective approach.
A download of your last session is also part of the programme. In some cases more sessions may be required. This will be discussed with you up front and, of course, if you feel you would like extra sessions these can be arranged.
Q: What if I cancel my session?
A: Any appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice will be charged at the normal session fee.
For cancellations with more than 48 hours notice, your appointment will be rearranged free of charge.
Q: What happens if I arrive late for my session?
A: If there is another client due for the following appointment, then the end time of the session will remain the same so that the next client's appointment still starts at the correct time.
If there isn't another client following, we will always try to be accommodating.
Q: What are your charges?
A: Your initial consultation is free of charge; this can be either in person or by telephone.
Sessions are charged at £65.00 each (appx 1 hour).
desire for change works on a 3 session basis and payment is required for these on or before the first session. Payment can be in cash or via Paypal. A link to PayPal is on the information & links page.
